The warm up three way catalytic converter (WU-TWC) and the under-floor three way catalytic converter (under-floor TWC) convert hydrocarbons (HC), carbon monoxide (CO), and oxides of nitrogen (NOx) in the exhaust gas to carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrogen (N2), and water vapor.
The WU-TWC is attached directly under the cylinder head that is integrated into the exhaust manifold.

Charging System Description - Overview
Overview
The PCM gathers vehicle operating system data and determines the required charging rate. Based on that data, the PCM commands the alternator to provide a specific charging rate (voltage) between 12.5 and 15.8 volts, using 1/10th volt steps. In some operating conditions, the alternator may bypass PCM control and use a default value.
*Depending on the vehicle condition, the variable control is not activated.
When the alternator is at fault, one or more of the following DTC is stored. Refer to the corresponding troubleshooting.
