Replacement
1. Front Bulkhead Cover - Remove
2. Radiator Cap - Remove
- Wait until the engine is cool, then carefully remove the
radiator cap.
3. Splash Shield - Remove
4. Engine Coolant - Drain
- Loosen the drain plug (A), and drain the coolant.
5. Engine Block Coolant - Drain
- Install a rubber hose (A) on the drain bolt (B) located at the
rear of the engine block, then loosen the drain bolt.
- When the coolant stops draining, tighten the drain bolt.
Remove the rubber hose.
- Tighten the radiator drain plug securely.
6. Splash Shield - Install
7. Coolant Reservoir - Refill
- Remove, drain and reinstall the coolant reservoir.
- Fill the coolant reservoir to the MAX mark (A) with Honda
Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2.
8. Engine Coolant - Refill

Follow the chart and pour coolant into the radiator up to the base of the filler neck.
NOTE:
-
Honda Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2 is a mixture of 50 % antifreeze and 50 % water. Honda Extreme Cold
Weather Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2 is a 100 % concentration coolant. Do not add water to either coolant.

If the vehicle is regularly driven in very low temperatures (below -22 ºF (-30 ºC)
), a 60 % concentration of coolant should
be used.
*: When you want to winterize the coolant with the minimum amount of coolant change but the current coolant concentration
in the vehicle is unknown, you must drain all coolant from the cooling system.
Engine Coolant Refill Capacities (Including the coolant reservoir capacity of
0.8 L (0.21 US gal) )
6-Speed A/T:
At Coolant Change: 7.2 L (1.90 US gal)
After Engine Overhaul: 8.8 L (2.32 US gal)
9-Speed A/T:
At Coolant Change: 7.3 L (1.93 US gal)
After Engine Overhaul: 8.8 L (2.32 US gal)
9. Engine Coolant - Air Bleed
- Loosely install the radiator cap.
- Start the engine, and let it run until it warms up (the radiator
fan comes on at least twice).
- Turn off the engine. Check the level in the radiator, and add
Honda Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2, if needed.
10.Engine Coolant Leak - Check
- Put the radiator cap securely, then start the engine again,
and check for leaks.
- Clean up any spilled engine coolant.
11.Front Bulkhead Cover - Install
12.Maintenance Minder - Reset (With Maintenance Minder System)
- If the Maintenance Minder required to replace the engine
coolant, reset the Maintenance Minder with the gauge (see
"Resetting the Maintenance Minder"). If the Maintenance
Minder did not require to replace the engine coolant, reset
the Maintenance Minder with the HDS (see "Resetting the
Individual Maintenance Items").
