Replacement
NOTE: Keep all foreign particles out of the transmission.
1. Engine - Warm Up
- Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3,000 rpm
without load (in P or N) until the radiator fan comes on, then
let it idle.
2. Vehicle - Lift
3. Front Bulkhead Cover - Remove
4. Air Intake Tube - Remove
5. Air Cleaner - Remove
6. Intake Air Duct - Remove
- Disconnect the breather pipe (A).
7. ATF - Drain
- Remove the ATF filler bolt (A) with the sealing washer (B).
- Remove the drain plug (A).
- Drain the ATF.
- Reinstall the drain plug using a new sealing washer (B).
8. ATF - Refill
- Refill the transmission with the recommended fluid through
the filler hole (A). Always use genuine Honda ATF DW-1.
NOTE: Using a non-Honda ATF can affect shift quality.
Automatic Transmission Fluid Capacity
Without AWD:
3.1 L (3.3 US qt) at change
7.0-7.4 L (7.4-7.8 US qt) at overhaul
With AWD:
3.1 L (3.3 US qt) at change
7.3-7.7 L (7.7-8.1 US qt) at overhaul
- Install the ATF filler bolt (B) with a new sealing washer (C).
- Remove the ATF dipstick (A).
- Make sure the ATF fluid level is between the upper mark
(B) and the lower mark (C) on the ATF dipstick.
- Insert the ATF dipstick back into the ATF dipstick tube.
9. Intake Air Duct - Install
- Install the intake air duct.
NOTE: When you tighten the band, refer to the throttle
body removal and installation procedure.
- Connect the breather pipe (A).

12.Front Bulkhead Cover - Install
13.HDS DLC - Connect
14.Maintenance Minder - Reset (With Maintenance Minder System)
- If the Maintenance Minder required to replace the ATF,
reset the Maintenance Minder with the gauge (see
"Resetting the Maintenance Minder"). If the Maintenance
Minder did not require to replace the ATF, reset the
Maintenance Minder with the HDS (see "Resetting the
Individual Maintenance Items").

NOTE:

- Be careful not to burn yourself.
1. Vehicle - Lift Set
2. HDS DLC - Connect
3. ATF - Drain
- Remove the drain plug (A), and drain the ATF.
- Install a new drain plug.
4. ATF - Refill
- Remove the level plug (A).
With AWD
Without AWD

Refill the transmission with the recommended fluid into the level plug hole (B) until the ATF overflows.
Always use Honda ATF TYPE3.
NOTE: Using the wrong type ATF can affect shift quality.
Automatic Transmission Fluid Capacity:
3.3 L (3.5 US qt) at change
6.3-6.7 L (6.7-7.1 US qt) at overhaul
7.1-7.5 L (7.5-7.9 US qt) at overhaul for AWD
- Temporarily install the old level plug.
5. ATF Level - Check
With AWD
Without AWD
- Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
- Enter the VSA maintenance mode.
- Start the engine.
- Shift the transmission to S position/mode.
- Run the vehicle in 1st gear, 2nd gear, 3rd gear, and 4th
gear, at sequential shift mode, and wait for at least 10
seconds to each gear. Slow down, and stop the wheels.
NOTE: Do not run transmission on the lift past 4th gear, or
transmission damage will occur.
- Shift the transmission to P position/mode, then raise the
engine speed at 2,000 rpm to ensure that the torque
converter is full of ATF.
- Run the engine at idle speed until ATF Temperature
reaches 104 ºF (40 ºC) (allowed adjusting range: 99-113
ºF (37- 45 ºC) ) with the HDS.
- Remove the level plug (A), and make sure the ATF is
dropping from the level plug hole (B) while the engine is still
running.
NOTE:
- If the ATF is pouring out, wait until the ATF starts
dripping from the level plug hole.
- If there is no ATF coming out, add the ATF through the
level plug hole until the ATF overflows, then wait until
the ATF starts dripping from the level plug hole.
- Improper ATF level will affect shift quality.
- Install a new level plug.
- Turn the engine off.
6. All Removed Parts - Install
- Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.
7. Maintenance Minder - Reset
- If the Maintenance Minder required to replace the ATF,
reset the Maintenance Minder with the gauge (see
"Resetting the Maintenance Minder"). If the Maintenance
Minder did not require to replace the ATF, reset the
Maintenance Minder with the HDS (see "Resetting the
Individual Maintenance Items").
