Removal
SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations and the precautions and procedures before
doing repairs or service.
NOTE: Before doing this procedure, set the front wheels in the straight ahead position.
1. 12 Volt Battery Terminal - Disconnect
NOTE: Wait at least 3 minutes before starting work.
2. Driver's Airbag - Remove
3. Steering Wheel - Remove
4. Column Cover - Remove
5. Cable Reel/Steering Angle Sensor - Remove
- Disconnect the connectors (A) from the cable reel.
- Release the lock tabs (B), then remove the cable
reel/steering angle sensor (C).
6. Cable Reel - Remove
Installation
SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations and the precautions and procedures before
doing repairs or service.
NOTE:

Before installing the steering wheel, make sure the front wheels are aligned straight ahead.

New cable reel is locked by yellow tab for center adjustment. When installing a new cable reel there is no need to rotate the
cable reel. You remove the tab and discard it, after install new cable reel.

If the driver's airbag is deployed, cable reel cannot be reused because of thermal damage.
1. Cable Reel - Install
2. Cable Reel/Steering Angle Sensor - Install
- Install the cable reel/steering angle sensor (A).
- Connect the connectors (B) to the cable reel.
3. Column Cover - Install
4. Cable Reel - Align
- Make sure the front wheels are pointing straight ahead.
- Center the cable reel (A). Do this by first rotating the cable
reel clockwise until it stops.
- Rotate the cable reel counterclockwise about three full
turns. The arrow mark (B) on the cable reel label should
point straight up.
5. Steering Wheel - Install
6. Driver's Airbag - Install
7. SRS Operation - Confirm
- Do the 12 volt battery terminal reconnection procedure, turn
the vehicle to the ON mode, and check that the SRS
indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.
