Removal/Installation
NOTE:

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations and the precautions and procedures before
doing repairs or service.

The steering hanger beam is constructed of magnesium alloy and is not repairable if damaged in a collision.
- Special Mag-Form self-tapping bolts are used to attach components to the steering hanger beam. If a Mag-Form bolt hole
is stripped, oversize bolts are available.
1. Battery Terminal - Disconnect
NOTE: Wait at least 3 minutes before starting work.
2. Cowl Cover - Remove
3. Linkage Assembly - Remove
4. Both A-Pillar Trim - Remove
5. Both Kick Panel - Remove
6. Both Dashboard Side Lid - Remove
7. Driver's Dashboard Lower Cover - Remove
8. Driver's Dashboard Vent - Remove
9. Passenger's Dashboard Undercover - Remove
10.Center Console - Remove
11.Shift Lever - Remove (6-Speed A/T)
12.AC Inverter Unit - Remove (For Some Models)
13.Media Hub Unit - Remove (For Some Models)
14.Brake Pedal Position Switch - Remove
15.Steering Column Cover - Remove
16.Dashboard/Steering Hanger Beam - Remove
Driver's Side
- Disconnect the connector (A).
- Disconnect the connectors (A). (for some models)
- Disconnect the connector (A).
- Disconnect the connectors (A). (for some models)
Center Console Area
- Disconnect the connectors (A).
- Remove the harness clips (B).
- Using TORX T30 bit, remove the ground bolt.
- Remove the harness clips (A).
- Disconnect the connectors (B). (for some models)
Steering Column Area

Disconnect the connectors (A), and remove the harness clips (B). (for some models)
- Remove the bolts, and then remove the steering
column/EPS control unit (A).
- Put on the steering (A) to the driver's side floor.
NOTE: Wrap the part in the shop towel to avoid any damage to
it prior to the removal.
Dashboard/Steering Hanger Beam
- Remove the bracket (A).
- Remove the bolts (A, B).
Driver's side
- Remove the cap (A).
- Loosen the special bolts (B) until they disengage from the
threads on the hanger beam (C), and engage the inside
threads of the collar bolts (D). The thread lock on the
special bolts makes the special bolts and the collar bolts
turn together.
- Continue to loosen the special bolts to turn the collar bolts
into the fixed space adjusters (E) until the collar bolts
engage the adjuster brackets. This creates a gap (F)
between the collar bolts and the body.
- Remove the special bolts.
NOTE: The special bolt at the bottom of passenger's side
remains in the body side.
Engine compartment area
- Check that the collar bolt (A) are seated in the fixed space
adjusters (B).
NOTE:
- If either collar bolt was not seated, replace the special
bolts.
- Remove the dashboard/steering hanger beam (A).
17.Driver's Fuse Box Bracket / DLC Bracket - Remove
- If necessary, remove the brackets (A, B).
18.All Removed Parts - Install
Special bolt tightening
- Install the parts in the reverse order of removal, and note
these items:
NOTE:
- Before reinstalling the dashboard, screw the special
bolt (A) into the collar bolt (B), and check that they turn
together. If they do not turn together, replace the
special bolts.
- Before reinstalling the dashboard, be sure the collar
bolts can be screwed/unscrewed lightly by hand, and
then screw them into the fixed space adjusters (C) fully
by hand. Do not tighten them with any tools.
- Apply medium strength liquid thread lock to the bolts
securing the center joint bracket and the dashboard
before reinstallation.
- Make sure the dashboard fits onto the guide pins
correctly.
- Before tightening the bolts, make sure the wire
harnesses are not pinched.
- Make sure the connectors are plugged in properly.
- After setting the dashboard in the body, reinstall all of
the mounting bolts but do not tighten them.
- Tighten the special bolts and the bolts to the specified
torque in the sequence shown.
- As you tighten the bolts, the collar bolts screw out of
the space adjuster until they contact the body. Continue
tightening the special bolts to the specified torque.
- If the bolt threads of the steering hanger beam are
stripped, replace the bolts with one-size larger bolts
(available as a service part), which are specifically
designed to tighten the instrument panel to the
specified torque setting.
- When installing the steering column/EPS control unit,
tighten a new attaching bolts to the specified torque in
the numbered sequence shown.
- Do the battery terminal connection procedure.
- Check for any DTCs that may have been set during
repairs, and clear them.
