Inspection
1. Drive Belt Auto-Tensioner Position - Check
- Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and make sure to turn the
A/C switch OFF, then turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK)
mode.
- Check the position of the drive belt auto-tensioner
indicator
pointer (A) and the indicator (B).
- Start the engine, then check the position again with the
engine idling. If the position of the indicator moves or
fluctuates a lot, replace the drive belt auto-tensioner.
- Check for abnormal noise from the tensioner pulley. If you
hear any abnormal noise, replace the drive belt auto-tensioner.
2. Drive Belt - Remove
3. Drive Belt Auto-Tensioner - Inspect (In Car)
- Move the drive belt auto-tensioner
within its limit using a
wrench in the direction of the arrow. Check that the drive
belt auto-tensioner
moves smoothly and without any
abnormal noise. If the drive belt auto-tensioner
does not
move smoothly, or if you hear any abnormal noise, replace
the drive belt auto-tensioner.
4. Drive Belt Auto-Tensioner - Remove
5. Drive Belt Auto-Tensioner - Inspect
- Clamp the drive belt auto-tensioner
by using a 10 mm bolt
(A), a 6 mm bolt (B) and a vise as shown. Do not clamp the
drive belt auto-tensioner
itself.
- Set the torque wrench (C) as shown.
- Measure the torque when the drive belt auto-tensioner
is
turned counterclockwise. If the torque is less than the
specified value, replace the drive belt auto-tensioner.

Spring Torque
5.0-35 N-m (0.51-3.6 kgf-m, 3.7-26 lbf-ft)
6. All Removed Parts - Install
- Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.
