Removal
CAUTION
- Avoid breathing dust particles.
- Never use an air hose or brush to clean brake assemblies. Use an OSHA-approved vacuum cleaner.
1. Vehicle - Lift
2. Rear Wheels - Remove
3. Rear Brake Disc/Drum - Remove
4. Parking Brake Cable - Disconnect
- Using a flat-tip screwdriver (A), detach the clip (B) and then
rotate the clip down.
- Pull out the link of the parking brake lever assembly, and
then remove the pin (A).
- Remove the parking brake cable (B) from the parking brake
lever assembly.
- Remove the parking brake cable (A).
5. Parking Brake Shoe - Remove
- Disconnect and remove the brake spring A.
- Disconnect and remove brake spring B.
- Remove the tension pins (A) by pushing the respective
retainer springs (B), retainers (C), and turning the pin.
- Remove the adjuster assembly (D).
- Remove the parking brake lever assembly (E).
- Remove the parking brake shoes (F).
Installation
CAUTION
Frequent inhalation of brake pad dust, regardless of material composition, could be hazardous to your health.
- Avoid breathing dust particles.
- Never use an air hose or brush to clean brake assemblies. Use an OSHA-approved vacuum cleaner.
1. Parking Brake Shoe - Install
- Apply Plastilube #2 grease to the brake shoe ends and
strut ends (A), sliding surfaces of the parking brake shoe
(B), and the pivot of the parking brake lever (C) as shown.
Wipe off any excess. Keep grease off the brake linings.
- Install the tension pins (A), retainer springs (B), and
retainers (C).
- Install adjuster nut (D) and adjuster bolt (E) on the adjuster
assembly (F).
NOTE:
- Clean the threaded portions of adjuster nut and the
sliding surface of adjuster bolt, then coat them with
Plastilube #2 grease.
- Shorten adjuster assembly by fully turning the adjuster
nut.
- Install the parking brake lever assembly (G).
- Install the brake shoe adjuster assembly on the parking
brake shoes.
- Install the brake spring B.
- Install the brake spring A.
2. Parking Brake Cable - Disconnect
- Install the parking brake cable (A).
- Install the pin (A) to attach the parking brake cable (B) to
the parking brake lever assembly.
- Put the link of the parking brake lever assembly back.
- Rotate the clip (A) horizontally to install the clip.
