Removal/Installation
1. 12 Volt Battery Terminal - Disconnect
2. Starter - Remove

- Disconnect the positive cable (A) and the connector (B).
3. All Removed Parts - Install
- Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.
NOTE: Make sure the crimped side of the ring terminal
faces away from the starter when you connect the positive
cable.
Test
1. Starter Performance - Test

- Clamp the starter firmly in a vise.
- Disconnect the motor wire from the M terminal.
- Make the connections for this test using the thickest
(gauge) wire possible (preferably the same gauge as used
on the vehicle).
NOTE: To avoid damaging the starter, never leave the 12
volt battery connected for more than 5 seconds.
- Connect the 12 volt battery as shown. If the starter pinion
moves out, it is working properly.

- Disconnect the 12 volt battery from the M terminal. If the
pinion does not retract, the hold-in coil of the solenoid is
working properly.

- Disconnect the 12 volt battery from the starter body. If the
pinion retracts immediately, it is working properly.

- Reconnect the wire to the M terminal.
- Connect the starter to the 12 volt battery as shown, and
confirm that the motor runs.
- If the electric current meets the specification when the 12
volt battery voltage is at 11.5 V, the starter is working
properly.

Starter Removal, Installation, and Performance Test
Removal/Installation
NOTE: With auto idle stop system, if the starter is replaced, replace starter cut relay 1 and starter cut relay 2 at the same time.
1. Air Cleaner - Remove
2. 12 Volt Battery - Remove
3. 12 Volt Battery Box - Remove
4. Harness Holder - Move

- Remove the connector clamp (A).
- Move the harness holder (B).
5. Skid Block - Remove
6. Starter - Remove

- Remove the harness clamp (A).
- Disconnect the positive cable (B) and the connectors (C).
- Remove the starter.
7. All Removed Parts - Install
- Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.
NOTE: Make sure the crimped side of the ring terminal
faces away from the starter when you connect the positive
cable.

Starter Counter - Clear (With Auto Idle Stop System and when Starter Replaced)
Starter Counter Clear Procedure
NOTE:
- If the starter is replaced, do this procedure.
- If the starter is replaced, replace starter cut relay 1 and
starter cut relay 2 at the same time.
- Make sure the HDS is loaded with the latest software
version.
- Replace starter cut relay 1 and starter cut relay 2.
- Connect the HDS to the DLC.
- Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
- Select IDLE STOP STARTER COUNTER CLEAR in the
ADJUSTMENT MENU with the HDS.
Test
1. Starter Performance - Test

- Clamp the starter firmly in a vise.
- Make a connection for this test using the thickest (gauge)
wire possible (preferably the same gauge as used on the
vehicle).
NOTE: To avoid damaging the starter, never leave the 12
volt battery connected for more than 5 seconds.
- Connect the 12 volt battery as shown, and check for
continuity between the B terminal and the starter body. If
there is continuity, it is working properly.

- Disconnect the 12 volt battery from the starter body as
shown, and check for continuity between the B terminal and
the starter body. If there is no continuity, it is working
properly.

- Connect the starter to the 12 volt battery as shown, and
confirm that the motor runs.
- If the electric current meets the specification when the 12
volt battery voltage is at 11.5 V, the starter is working
properly.
