Honda Pilot: Tailgate Support Strut Removal and Installation

Removal/Installation

NOTE:

• Have an assistant help you when removing and installing the tailgate support strut.
• Use eye protection when prying the support strut clips.
• Do not carry the tailgate support strut holding its harness.
• Do not twist or apply transverse force to the tailgate support strut.
• Support the tailgate with a prop to the vehicle, not to the ground.
• Do not remove the support strut from the pivot bracket. If you do, you will have to replace it with new one.

1. Tailgate Lower Trim Panel - Remove

2. Pinch Sensor - Remove

3. Power Tailgate Motor Connector - Disconnect (Left Tailgate Support Strut Only)

4. Tailgate Support Strut - Remove

1. Remove the bolts.

2. Remove the bolts, and then remove the tailgate support strut (A) from the tailgate.

5. All Removed Parts - Install

1. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.

2. Tailgate Trim - Remove

3. Tailgate Support Strut - Remove

1. Remove the bolts .

2. Pry the support strut clip (A) with a flat-tip screwdriver from each end of the tailgate support strut (B), and then remove the support strut from the pivot bolt (C).

NOTE: Do not remove the clip from the support strut.

3. If necessary, remove the pivot bolt (A) from the tailgate or the body.

4. All Removed Parts - Install

1. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.
