Inspection
1. Third Shaft - Assemble
- Install these parts in the following order:
- 49 x 66 x 3 mm thrust needle bearing (A)
- 45 x 50 x 25 mm needle bearing (B)
- 4th gear (C)
- 49 x 66 x 3 mm thrust needle bearing (D)
- 4th gear washer (E)
NOTE: Install the 4th gear washer by aligning the
fingers (F) with the grooves (G), and in the direction
shown.
- Install these parts in the following order:
- 36 mm cotters (H)
- Cotter retainer (I)
- Snap ring (J)
- 37 x 42 x 25 mm needle bearings (K)
- 6th gear (L)
- Apply ATF to the shaft splines of the reverse selector hub
contact area.
- Place the reverse selector hub (A) in the direction shown.
- Press the reverse selector hub into place using the 40 mm
I.D. driver handle, the 30 mm I.D. bearing driver
attachment, and a press.
2. Third Shaft 6th Gear Axial Clearance - Inspect
- Measure the clearance between 6th gear (A) and the
reverse selector hub (B) with a feeler gauge (C) in at least
three places. Use the average as the actual clearance.
Standard: 0.045-0.420 mm (0.002-0.016 in)
- If the clearance is out of the standard, remove the 4th gear
washer and measure its thickness.
- Select and install a new 4th gear washer, then recheck the
clearance.

- 8.515 mm (0.33524 in)
- 8.540 mm (0.33622 in)
- 8.565 mm (0.33720 in)
- 8.590 mm (0.33819 in)
- 8.615 mm (0.33917 in)
- 8.640 mm (0.34016 in)
3. Third Shaft - Disassemble
Special Tool Required
- Driver Handle, 40 mm I.D. 07746-0030100
- Bearing Driver Attachment, 30 mm I.D. 07746-0030300
