The rear entertainment system is an AV system that has a retractable display mounted on the inside of the roof for the second and third row passengers. Inside of the head unit, there is a built-in selector for the rear entertainment system, and it enables the system to display different contents on each screen for the front and rear seat passengers. This system can also display navigation maps on the screens. Because the rear display unit sends infrared audio data signals to the wireless headphones, the wireless headphones and front speaker can output different audio data at a time. The rear entertainment system includes a self-diagnostic feature that performs some basic system checks.
Rear Controller and Screen
The rear controller and screen consists of the removable wireless remote control and the retractable rear display unit.
The rear display unit includes a TFT crystal screen that has a parallel viewing angle at 45 degrees on both the right and left and a vertical viewing angle at 40 degrees on the upper side and at 20 degrees on the lower side.
The screen pivots on the hinges which allow the screen to open and close. The screen is secured in its closed position in a latch mechanism. When you push the latch release button, the screen is released and can be seen by pulling down the rear display unit.
When the rear entertainment system is on and the screen is opened at least 15 degrees, the screen turns on. The screen can be adjusted between 15 and 125 degrees to accommodate a wide range of viewing angles. The rear display unit turns off when the screen is opened between 125 to 140 degrees.
The rear entertainment system includes a thermistor to detect the temperature inside the unit. If the temperature goes up above 158ºF (70ºC), the brightness of the LCD monitor (backlight) is reduced to avoid the excessive heat.
BD Player Unit
The BD player unit includes a multi drive that can play Blu-Ray, DVD , CD, CD-R, and CD-RW. The playable formats are the mp3, WMA, and AAC files in the CD-R/CD-RW. This audio system employs the SPDIF (Sony/Philips Digital Interface) digital signal method to deliver a high-quality sound to the passengers. This system employs the HDMI method (digital signal) for the image output.

Wireless Remote Control
The wireless remote control enables the passengers to operate the rear entertainment system from the rear seats.
The infrared pulse code modulation at 37.9 kHz frequency is used to send signals between the wireless remote control and the rear display unit. The signals received at the rear display unit are then sent to the audio unit or the audio-navigation unit via the GA-Net, which performs the requested commands. Wireless Headphones
The wireless headphones allow the rear passengers to listen to the audio from the rear entertainment system without using the speakers.
The wireless headphones receive the audio signals from the rear controller and screen using FM modulation method. In addition, each ear piece uses separate frequencies when receiving audio signals. The left side of the ear piece uses 2.3MHz and the right side uses 2.8MHz.
RES Auxiliary Jack Assembly
The auxiliary jack assembly includes the headphone jack, RCA terminal, and HDMI terminal so that the rear entertainment system can be connected to external devices.
The HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) has a copyright protection and transmits the digital images and audio data in uncompressed forms. Compared to the RCA, the HDMI can deliver higher quality images or audio to the passengers for this reason.
