Honda Pilot: Sunlight Sensor Test

Honda Pilot 2016-2022 (YF5/YF6) Service Manual / Parts Test Info / Sunlight Sensor Test

Test

NOTE: Before testing the sensor, check for climate control DTCs.

1. Sunlight Sensor - Test

Honda Pilot. Parts Test Info

  1. Pull out the sunlight sensor (A).
  2. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
  3. Measure the voltage between (+) probe on terminal No. 2 and (-) probe on terminal No. 1 with the connector connected.

NOTE: The voltage readings will not change under the light of a flashlight or a fluorescent lamp.

    Voltage should be:

    • 3.56 V with no sunlight or the sensor covered up
    • Less than 3.56 V with sunlight on the sensor (depending on sunlight intensity)
  4. If the voltage is not as specified, replace the sunlight sensor.

Sunshade Control Unit Input Test

NOTE:

  • Before testing, check for DTCs. If any DTCs are indicated, troubleshoot those DTCs first.
  • If you are troubleshooting multiple DTCs, be sure to follow the instructions in B-CAN System Diagnosis Test Mode A.
  • If the sunshade works OK manually, but will not work in AUTO, or reverses frequently (obstacle detection), reset the sunshade before proceeding with the input test.
  • Before testing, make sure the No. A2-4 (20 A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box is OK.
  • Before testing, make sure the No. C29 (7.5 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box is OK.

1. Disconnect the sunshade motor-control unit 10P connector.

2. Inspect the connector and socket terminals to be sure they are all making good contact:

  • If the terminals are bent, loose, or corroded, repair them as necessary, and recheck the system.
  • If the terminals are OK, go to step 3.

3. With the connector still disconnected, do the following input tests:

  • If any test indicates a problem, find and correct the cause, then recheck the system.
  • If all the input tests prove OK, do the sunshade control unit resetting procedure.

NOTE: After replacing the sunshade motor-control unit, do the sunshade control unit resetting procedure.
